The Century Guild is a studio devoted to designing and building one-of-a-kind ecclesiastical, corporate and residential furniture.

The Century Guild designs and makes extremely high quality one-of-a-kind [or very limited edition] wooden furniture in any style. Every piece is commissioned and thus made to the client's individual specifications.

Its founder, Nick Strange, has been making wooden furniture since 1976. In 1982 he began The Century Guild, which currently employs two other craftsmen- Richard Maxwell and Michael Stewart-both of whom have been with the Guild for more than twenty four years. Strange's greatest influence has been the British and American Arts and Crafts movement. His company is named for another "Century Guild"-one founded in 1882 by British architect A. H. Mackmurdo. Strange's goal is to continue the principles followed by those earlier craftsmen and described by Mackmurdo as the willingness "to encourage and establish a high standard of form and method."

As a result, The Century Guild is known

:: for finding creative solutions to functional problems;
:: for working in a wide range of styles-from Gothic to the most contemporary;
:: for incorporating other materials such as metal, stone and leather into its pieces;
:: for paying special attention to wood selection and finish.

Examples of The Century Guild's work can be found in corporate boardrooms and university spaces throughout the Southeast, in ecclesiastical settings including St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, and in private residences nationwide. A member of the American Institute of Architects' Interfaith Forum on Religion, Art and Architecture since 1991, The Century Guild often collaborates with architects and is pleased that three of those collaborations have received AIA-IFRAA awards.
